Superhero Contest
This was for a superhero contest I was in where you had to create an origin story for a made up superhero. I'll admit I didn't really put much work and effort into this one but I still wanted to share it with you all. Enjoy!
L'Aqua
My name is Lorrin Gillus. I guess you can say I'm not your average teenager. I'm one of those kids who got hit with superpowers against their will. I live in a small town called Cheez. It's by the ocean and I love to spend time at he beach when life gets a lil too...complicated.
My parents divorced when I was young, some stupid thing with dad sleeping with his receptionist or something. My mom took care of me since then. That was over ten years ago. Now I'm sixteen and trying to fit in. When the divorce happened, I didn't want people to point at me and say “oh that poor girl” so I jumped the gun. I dyed my hair greenish blue and put on some seaweed eyeliner. Got my nose pierced when I was fourteen from a close friend and got studded up with bracelets. I gave them something else to talk about instead of the “poor little girl”.
My dad still tries to contact me, like he thinks I'll ever forgive him after what he put mom through. Mom wants me to give him a chance, but I rather he just buzz off. Whenever I hear one of their heated conversations over the phone, I grab my headphones and head for the beach. There's a spot by the pier I always sit at and just stare into the ocean.
One day, during one of my “escapes”, something inside me just urged me to go swimming. It was late in the evening and no one was around so I decided to just undress and just dived in. I'm a pretty good swimmer, I mean you'd have to be if you live by the ocean right? As I was swimming, something shiny caught my eye. It was reflecting off the setting sun on the ocean floor. Luckily, it wasn't too deep and so I same towards it. In a bed of seaweed was a strange looking glowing hair tie. It was...pulsating as I reached out to grab it. I managed to snatch it and headed back to shore. I stared at it and noticed it had a strange pattern. Green and blue swirls that appeared to dance even though I wasn't moving the tie.
I fastened it into my hair as I got dressed and felt a strange sensation throughout my body. I shook it off as hunger and just went home. That night, I had a dream. Some strange creature deep underwater was growing, corrupting everything around it. Then It decided to come to the surface. When I awoke, something was different about me, this time I was sure. When I was taking a shower, the water stuck to me, and I absorbed it instead of it going onto the floor. I stumbled and freaked out when I noticed my skin was translucent.
I focused again and my skin turned back to normal. I didn't tell anyone about it, but I did notice one thing. The hair tie, I couldn't take it off my hair. It must have been the source of my new powers. The next few days I practiced on the beach. I learned that I could control water around me, turn my arms into aquatic whips, and for a short amount of time I could turn into a puddle of water. That one was scary since I got sucked into the sand and it took me a while to get back together.
A month later, I made me an outfit to go with my new powers. I got a black and green wetsuit so I could glide under the water easily. Painted my toes and nails as well as found some waterproof eyeliner. If I was gonna have powers, I had to make sure I looked the part. And finally, I bought a canteen from the antique store near my house so I'd always have some water near me just in case. I stared at myself in the mirror and smiled. I finally felt special for another reason aside from being “that poor little girl”. From now on, I was going to call myself, L'Aqua.
A few more days past and I found myself on the beach once more. There was a tremor that shook the town and I felt a powerful presence nearby. The water turned black and in the furthest depths I could see glowing red eyes staring back at me.
“So you've chosen another host? No matter, this world will fall just like all the others!” a dark voice boomed.
The waves grew and crashed as I jumped out onto the beach as a monstrous crab the size of a small building emerged from the sea. I trembled in fear as it's enormous claws and loud screech echoed throughout the town. People ran and fright, but something held me still.
“Believe in yourself Lorrin. I chose you to find me for a reason.” I heard a voice echo from within me.
The hair tie? It must have something or someone inside it that was talking to me. I stood firm and stared at the giant crab. Rushing forward, I jumped into the ocean as it was moving towards the town. I swam towards one of its legs and wrapped around it before firing a powerful torrent of water to knock it off balance. The crab wailed as it try to grab me with it's claw, but I was too fast. I shot out of the water and into the air turning my arms into whips . I slashed at the crab's face, scarring it with powerful strikes. I blew hot steam at me, causing me to cover my eyes before it slammed me to the sand with a powerful swing. I shakily climbed to my feet as I t walked past me and towards the city.
“No! I won't let you!” I screamed.
I gathered as much strength as I could as I reached for the crab and a giant wave of water formed into a giant hand. The hand grabbed the crab and pulled it back into the ocean and then hurled it away. Once the crab was out of sight, I fell to my knee exhausted. I knew the crab would be back, there would probably be more creatures. It was up to me to master my abilities and protect Cheez and learn where my powers came from. I stood up and stared at the ocean and touched my hair tie. I am L'Aqua, no harm will come to my home, and that's a promise.
